The da Vinci Surgical System is used to treat gynecologic conditions such as:
Procedures using da Vinci surgical system:
Minimally invasive hysterectomy
Hysterectomy is the most common female surgery. Over 650,000 procedures are performed annually in the United States. Most performed through abdominal (open) incision, but with new technology like the da Vinci surgical system, hysterectomy can be done as minimally invasive surgery.
Minimally invasive myomectomy
Myomectomy is not as common as a hysterectomy with 40,000 procedures performed annually in the United States. A myomectomy is often performed if uterine and/or fertility preservation is desired. The number and size of fibroids may require complete removal of uterus (hysterectomy), instead of myomectomy.
Minimally invasive hysterectomy for cancer
The da Vinci system enables minimally invasive surgery (MIS) approach for cancer treatment. Other techniques such as conventional laparoscopy may fall short in adequately removing and treating gynecologic cancers and can be difficult to perform. Cancers treated with the da Vinci system include cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, and ovarian cancer.
