Surgical Services
For many types of cancers, surgery is an essential component of the treatment plan. At St. Vincent Healthcare, we have the experience, knowledge and expert skills to guide you through your treatment so you can focus on your recovery. Surgery can be utilized to treat a variety of cancers, including those of:
- The respiratory system (lungs and airway)
- Digestive system (esophagus and oral cavity, stomach, small intestine, colon, rectum, liver, pancreas and bile duct)
- Breast
Female reproductive system (cervix, uterus and ovaries)
- Male reproductive system (prostate, penis and testes)
- Urinary system (bladder and kidneys)
- Thyroid and parathyroid
- Brain and nervous system
- The skin (melanoma), tissues, bones, muscle (sarcomas) and joints
Surgery can also be performed to obtain biopsies, complete sentinel node mapping or create permanent and semi-permanent IV (intravenous) lines for utilization during chemotherapy and treatment.
The physicians performing surgeries at St. Vincent Healthcare are committed to providing minimally invasive procedures when appropriate for your care and treatment of your cancer. Minimally invasive procedures, like laparoscopic surgeries, require smaller incisions and tend to result in a shorter hospital stay, less pain and scarring, less blood loss and a more rapid recovery when compared to open surgical procedures.
Our da Vinci surgical system provides surgeons with an alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy, putting a surgeon's hands at the controls of a state-of-the-art robotic platform. Using robotic-assisted surgery, our physicians can now perform complex and delicate surgeries using small incisions with unmatched precision.
Surgical services can be accessed through St. Vincent Healthcare's Surgery Plus, where staff specialize in preparing patients for their surgery or procedure, or through the Yellowstone Surgery Center, a free-standing ambulatory surgery center that combines the latest technology and treatment with comfortable surroundings.
