Diagnosis/Types of Cancer

Also referred to as carcinoma or a malignancy, the term “cancer” simply means an uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells.  This can occur in virtually any place in the body, including on the skin, in the bones or in organs such as the lung or colon.  Every person has a different risk of developing the disease; some are more likely due to their family or genetic history while others may work with toxins or otherwise lead lifestyles which increase their risk.

Regardless of its cause or type, it is important that cancers be detected and diagnosed as early as possible so that treatment can begin quickly.  Equally as important are the steps you can take to actually reduce your risk of cancer, such as eating a healthy diet, reducing exposure to UV rays and limiting alcohol consumption.
