Preceptor Development Program

The Initial Preceptor Development Program course provides the initial information and training need to become a preceptor at St. Vincent Healthcare. The information is provided via the Medelearn web based learning system. The program contains information designed to help preceptors meet the challenges of teaching and evaluating students, new graduates and new hires in the hospital setting. Lessons include such topics as the primary roles of the preceptor, assessment of learning needs, giving feedback and evaluating those you are training. Additionally, insight into teaching style preferences and ways to deal with difficult situations are also included. Those interested in becoming a preceptor and taking this course should call extension 3069 to sign up for the class.

The Advanced Preceptor Development Program course is the second and final part of the Preceptor Development program. This course has a more interactive curriculum developed to provide skills regarding how to teach critical thinking, deal with difficult orientees and situations and how and what to document to complete an orientee's orientation. Preceptors of differing levels of experience will be able to interact and share ideas with each other.
