Preparing For Your Visit
The first time you meet with the oncology team at St. Vincent Healthcare, you will have the opportunity to get to know us and provide the chance for us to get to know you better. Our goal is to make sure your visit with us is as informative, positive and stress-free as possible, and we are here to make sure that you are comfortable in every way.
As with any visit to a physician, there are certain documents that you will need to bring with you, including:
- Current insurance card(s)
- Photo identification
- Any co-payment required by your insurance plan
It is also helpful for you to download and complete the patient forms available here on our website ahead of time, then bring them with you to your appointment. This ensures you have all of the information requested on the forms at your fingertips and also makes your check-in process even easier.
When you arrive, you will check in with our friendly front desk staff, and may be given additional paperwork to complete. You will also have the opportunity to meet with a financial advocate, who will work with your insurance provider(s) to make sure that your needs are met and reduce any concerns you may have about financial matters relating to your care and treatment.
Next, you will meet with your physician and the rest of the team you will be working with throughout your cancer journey, including nurses, certified nursing assistants and lab personnel. We recommend you dress comfortably, as some tests may be conducted at your appointment, such as checking your vitals (weight, heart rate, etc.) or taking a blood sample. During your appointment you will receive information about the next steps recommended by your oncologist, including additional testing, follow-up appointments and treatment options.
Remember, we are here to help you in any way possible. Whether you are traveling from out of town and need information about where to stay or want to learn more about the services we have available, please don’t hesitate to ask.
