A commitment to follow-up care after surgery is critical to help you avoid serious complications and to ensure a positive outcome. You will be scheduled to see your surgeon at Surgical Associates and will also meet with Kathleen Baskett, MD, and the bariatric nurse educator at Weight Management.
Patients are seen at these intervals, and more often if needed:
- 2 weeks post op
- 6 weeks post op
- 3 months post op
- 6 months post op
- One year post op
- Once a year after that
Continuing to exercise and participating in support groups will help increase your life long success after surgery!
Weight Loss and Improved Health
Bariatric surgery patients generally lose 65%-80% of their excess body weight within the first 18-24 months after surgery. Banding patients may realize a slower weight loss.
After surgery, it is not unusual for patients to see rapid improvement in other health conditions such as Type 2 Diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and high cholesterol levels. You may need to reduce or even stop some medications as your health improves.
